Itinerary
On the day of arrival at Cochin International Airport, you will be welcomed by Alkof Holidays representative who will transfer you to the hotel in Cochin.
After breakfast at the hotel, head-out to experience Kochi/Cochin. During your sightseeing of Kochi, you will visit St Francis Church, which is the oldest European church and a 16th centuary Jewish Synagogue. Afterwards visit the Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace due to it's colonial influences. Also visit Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica Fort, Indo Portuguese Museum, Chinese Fishing Nets, and Bolgatty Island. Overnight stay at the hotel.
The very first day of Onam festival (the ten days festival) starts with the Athachamayam festival, the celebration of the victory of the Kochi King. After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Thripunithura to witness Athachamayam Festival, a festival which itself has replete all the folk art forms and dance forms of Kerala. The major attraction of the festival is the well-crafted makeup of the artists, which is quite adorable to watch. Post lunch, thrill yourself with a boat race at Champakara village. Later in the evening, visit one of the theaters where you will get to see the classical dances of South India, i.e. Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Mohiniaattam. Classical dances are the best way to delineate stories by facial expressions and hand signs. Everything is charming in classical dance whether it’s costume, makeup, music, dance, and jewellery. Dancers worship the classical dance from decades to perform on stage with the perfection. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Today is the day for Thiruvonam. First, visit Vamana Moorthy temple in Thrikkakara village to see the Pooram celebration. Thrikkakara village itself has the holy importance. Rest of the day at leisure. In the evening, be a spectator to the preparation of Pulikali & the other folk artists. Enjoy Onam festival procession, one of the most valued harvest festivals celebrated in Kerala. Overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, leave for Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala. Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel. Rest and relax at the hotel, later visit Vadakkumnathan Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and adorned with murals. After that observe the festival procession including Kummatikali and Pulikkali in Chembookavu and Olarikkara. It will be a huge procession therefore it will include the artists as Mahabali, Krishna and other Hindu mythological figures. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit few museums in Thrissur to spend some quality times there. Later, enjoy Kummattikali procession in Kizhkenpattukara area of the town. Kummattikali, the colorful mask dance is the traditional dance done to pamper the Godness where dancers wear a colorful mask and embellish dress. Later in the evening, proceed for an excursion trip to Shornur for Tholpavakoothu Shadow Puppet Show. Tholpavakoothu is a unique folk art form of Kerala that represents stories in front of the viewers. The stories are mostly from the Hindu mythologies such as Ramayana. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Post breakfast, leave for Kozhikode. Upon arrival check-in at the hotel. Later in the day, visit Kalaripayattu School at Kozhikode to be a spectator to the ancient martial art of Kerala. Kalaripayattu considered as the mother of all the martial art forms. Kalaripayattu is a little bit a mixture of dance and defense. It is warfare with the peerless rhythmical feel that makes you forget that what you were watching is once a route to a fight. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Post breakfast, leave for Pollachi. Upon arrival check-in at the hotel, later head-out to experience Pollachi. Being in the close proximity of UNESCO World Heritage Site of Western Ghats, Pollachi ensures an amazing climate throughout the year. Tourists can indulge in shopping to their heart's content, especially coconuts, jaggery and vegetables. Pollachi is also famous in South Indian famil industry, over 1500 movies have been shot here. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Post breakfast, leave for Madurai. Upon arrival check-in at the hotel. Later visit Meenakshi Amman Temple - one of the oldest, largest, and most sacred Hindu temple in India, dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi, a form of Goddess Parvati, and her consort, Sundareshwar, a form of Lord Shiva. The temple is located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River, every year millions on pilgrims visit this sacred shrine. Also visit Thirupparamkunram Murugan Temple, Palamuthirsolai Murugan Temple, the Tirumal Nayak's Palace, Alagar Koil and Gandhi Museum. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Today, we'll leave for Munnar, a scenic hill station of Kerala. Upon arrival at Munnar, check-in at the hotel for overnight stay.
Spend the day in exploring the rolling hills of Misty Munnar dotted with tea plantations. Situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundale, Munnar is a town in the Western Ghats mountain range famous for its tea estates, exotic lush greenery and craggy peaks. This majestic hill station was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. Local sightseeing of Munnar includes visit to Mattupetty Dam, Kundale Lake and Echo point. Later in the afternoon proceed to Rajamalai (Eravikulam National Park), were the rarest species of mountain goat "Nilgiri Thars", can be spotted. Overnight stay at the hotel.
In the morning, Alkof Holidays representative will transfer you to the Cochin International Airport to board a flight for onward journey.
