Kailasa Temple
The Kailash Temple is the sixteenth cave, and it is one of the 32 cave temples and monasteries forming the magnanimous Ellora Caves. As per the historical records, it was built by the 8th century Rashtrakuta King Krishna I between the year 756 and 773 AD. Larger in area than Parthenon in Greece. Kailash Temple is considered as one of the most remarkable cave temples in India due to its massive size, architecture and sculptural treatment. About 145 feet wide, 195 feet long and 90 feet high, Kailash Temple covers an area twice the size of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. Kailasa temple is one such architecture which is carved out of a single rock in Ellora.
Jain Cave Temples
The Ellora Jain cave temples is a large rock-cut monastery temple complex located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, In dia. These caves are clustered in five excavations and numbered 30 to 34. Away from the bustle of pilgrims and tourists around the famous Buddhist and Brahmanical caves at Ellora lies a cluster of five Jaina caves, right at the northern end of the hill range. These caves, excavated in the 9th century CE, signify the last major phase of religious and artistic activity at Ellora, celebrating the ascetic character of the Jaina sect.
Buddhist Cave
The 12 Buddhist Caves mostly include viharas or monasteries. In these caves, several monasteries have shrines that are carved with paintings and sculptures of Buddha, Bodhisattva and Saints. Among all, Chaitya hall Cave 10 popularly known as the Carpenter's Cave is the most famous Buddhist cave. This cave features a cathedral-like stupa hall, which is called as chaityas. In the centre of this cave, there is 15-feet high statue of Buddha. Chaitya has a pillared verandah (gallery), which houses two shrines and a single cell.
Grishneshwar Temple
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Grishneshwar Temple located in Ellora is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Also known as Ghrneshwar or Dhushmeshwar Temple, this Jyotirlinga in Aurangabad is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered an important pilgrimage site. Grishneshwar is the smallest of the Jyotirlingas and is considered the last or the 12th Jyotirlinga of India.
